Iran Bonab Kebab en route to global market

Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism says Bonab Kebab has the potential to become a global brand in food industry.

Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism says Bonab Kebab has the potential to become a global brand in food industry.

Iranian minister of cultural heritage Ezzatollah Zarghami said in a video clip that went viral on social media, “Bonab Kebab has been registered nationally, but no branding has been done for it. Bonab can take over the world just like McDonald's.”

He added, “If this Kebab with the same taste, price and shape is found everywhere in Iran, we can work on its branding … and make it a global [brand],” while opening the food package of Azerbaijan Bonab Kebab in the presence of his guests.

Bonab county in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province is famous for its big Kebab Koubideh. Nowadays there are many restaurants around the country serving the same recipe of Bonab Kebab. The skill of cooking Bonab Kebab was registered on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Iran.

The UNESCO website defines Intangible cultural heritage as "an important factor in maintaining cultural diversity in the face of growing globalization," adding that its importance "is not the cultural manifestation itself but rather the wealth of knowledge and skills that is transmitted through it from one generation to the next."
